Laser optogalvanic spectroscopy of neon and krypton in a discharge plasma

Abstract
We report studies on the temporal evolution of the optogalvanic signal in neon and krypton using commercial hollow cathode lamps in conjunction with Nd: YAG pumped dye laser system. Transitions resulting from the excitation of 3s[3/2]2 and 5s[3/2]2 metastable states have been selected to study the discharge mechanism.
