Performance of a Dual Readout Calorimeter: A Simulation Study

ORAL

Abstract

I simulate electron interactions with a dual-readout calorimeter and examine energy resolutions. Current calorimeters need a dramatic improvement in energy resolutions to achieve the physics goals of a Higgs factory. One potential method for this is dual-readout calorimetry, which involves comparing signals of both scintillation and Cerenkov light to determine more accurately the electromagnetic fraction in a shower. Currently, the CalVision group is working to design and build such a calorimeter. In order to build the detector appropriately, accurate simulations are needed to clearly demonstrate the detector’s effects and efficiency. I demonstrate the results of electrons interacting with the electromagnetic calorimeter portion at various energies, incident angles, and locations on the crystal face.
