Electroluminescent plasmonic junctions coupled to photonic crystal cavities
ORAL
Abstract
Plasmonically resonant planar tunnel junctions have great potential to function as on-chip light sources and components of optoelectronic devices. Recent studies [Nano Lett. 24, 525-532 (2024)] have shown that electroluminescence (EL) in such junctions can show strong coupling between junction plasmon modes and excitons in a nearby 2D semiconductor. Here, we instead couple plasmonic tunnel junctions to 1D photonic crystal cavities, to examine the effects of such coupling on the emission process and the energetics of electron-hole recombination in the plasmonic metal. We will present initial results for above-threshold EL emission in these novel electrically driven structures.
