<sup>9</sup>Be and <sup>12</sup>C Thick Targets Neutron Yields from Particle Accelerator-Induced Nuclear Reactions by PHITS Code

Abstract

We calculated the double-differential cross-sections and neutron yields for the 9Be(4He, 𝑛)12C and 12C(𝑑, 𝑛)13N reactions at various energies using the PHITS code, which employs a Monte Carlo method. Our results were validated against existing experimental data, showing good agreement up to 30 MeV. Based on our findings, we identified optimal reactions at specific energies that maximize neutron yields, highlighting their potential for enhancing radiotherapy applications.
