Static and Dynamic Response of AM Refractory Alloys

ORAL

Abstract

Refractory alloys have the potential to provide high yield strength materials at elevated temperatures. However, refractory alloys are hard to conventionally process due to their high melting points and the strong temperature dependence of the elements. In this presentation, we discuss efforts at Sandia National Laboratories to fabricate various refractory alloys using direct energy deposition additive manufacturing. Details on their underlying microstructure of AM refractory alloys and preliminary results of static and dynamic high-pressure experiments will be presented along with planned future efforts.
