Exploring off-Hugoniot states using shock-reshock experiments

POSTER

Abstract

Dynamic high-pressure experiments being conducted using gas guns to explore off-Hugoniot thermodynamic states not reached via a single shock wave compression. In these experiments, the samples are first shocked upon impact and then reshocked using a higher impedance backing material. Reliable, high precision reshock data obtained from our work will provide a stringent test of the predictive capability of the existing material models.
