Programmed Burn Modeling of Hot and Cold Insensitive High Explosive Experiments
ORAL
Abstract
Here we present the validation efforts of programmed burn modeling of hot, cold, and ambient temperature experiments for an insensitive high explosive of interest. We make use of the currently available programmed burn models at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) including Detonation Shock Dynamics (DSD), Fast Sweeping Detonation (FSD), Advanced DSD, and DASHER. Calculations were conducted in LANL's Advanced Scientific Computing (ASC) hydrocodes. Adjustments to the burn models and their coupled equations of state to account for the changes in initial conditions due to the thermal environment are discussed. The modeling results for rate sticks, cylinder expansion (CYLEX), and corner turning experiments are shown, and comparisons with the Arrhenius Wescott-Stewart-Davis (AWSD) reactive flow model are made. Finally we discuss the limitations of programmed models in the context of non-room temperature modeling.
