Shock-Loading of Statically Compacted Sand

ORAL

Abstract

Herrmann's P-alpha model has recently been applied the behaviour of porous geological systems. The equation of state is broken into two distinct regions; un-compacted and a fully compacted. In an effort to improve understanding of the compaction process plate-impact experiments have been conducted on compacted sand. Sand is quasi-statically compacted prior to shock loading. The Hugoniot curve for the densified material is obtained and compared with that of the uncompacted material.
