Imaging Spin Textures in Momentum Space with QSPLEEM

Abstract
The ability to measure and control the spin degree of freedom in materials has both uncovered new phases of matter and incited the information age. Here, we discuss the newly developed quantum spin-polarized low-energy electron microscope, (QSPLEEM) available at the Molecular Foundry. Using a technique dubbed Spin- and Angle- Resolved Reflection Electron Spectrosopy (SP-ARRES), we present measurements of spin textures in the unoccupied electronic structure of magnetic materials, and compare with first principles calculations.
