Experimental study on the lack of influence of contact area on the solid-liquid lateral retention force

ORAL

Abstract

According to the theoretical expression of the lateral retention force that a drop experiences when it slides on a solid surface, such force is independent of the contact area between the drop and the surface, the retention force depends only on interactions at the triple line. In this talk, we present a series of experiments that show this somewhat counter-intuitive property of the lateral retention force.
