Error Correction with Sympathetically Cooled Yb+ Ions

ORAL

Abstract

We report on progress towards performing multiple rounds of fault-tolerant error correction using a chain of Yb+ ions. To counter the effect of motional heating during encoding and syndrome readout, we implement sympathetic cooling using co-trapped 172Yb+ ions.
