Optical excitation of the Higgs mode in superconductors

Abstract

We consider the dynamical excitation of the Higgs/amplitude mode in superconductors by quasiparticle avalanche following optical excitation. We comment on the efficiency of this approach for investigation of the amplitude mode in various physical regimes.
