Constructing Trapped Ion Quantum Computers

Abstract
Atomic ion qubits are a promising system for quantum computation with high-fidelity state preparation, measurement, and gates. These systems have already demonstrated complex quantum algortihms from hidden shift problems to quantum simulations. In this talk, I will discuss our experimental work at Duke towards constructing larger ion trap quantum systems. I will also describe the prospects for quantum error correction with trapped atomic ions.
