Characterizing multi-qubit gates on an ion traps quantum computer

Abstract

Multi-qubit gates allow complex dynamics to be generated in short quantum circuits, enabling lower total error rates. However, fully characterizing the performance of a multi-qubit gate is impractical for more than three qubits. In this talk, we present a method of efficiently estimating the average gate fidelity of the Molmer-Sorrenson gate and experimental estimates of the fidelity of global Molmer-Sorrenson gates acting on up to 10 trapped ions.
