First-principles calculation of the intrinsic spin-orbit torque in a heavy-metal/ferromagnet bilayer

ORAL

Abstract

We describe the implementation of spin-torque calculations using the Landauer-Büttiker non-equilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) formalism within the tight-binding LMTO method [1]. This approach is applied to study the intrinsic spin torque in a ballistic Co/Pt bilayer. We consider the contributions from both the Fermi sea and the bias window and analyze the numerical convergence of the results.
