Tuning Thermoelectric Properties of RuSb<sub>2</sub> by Mn doping

Abstract

Narrow-gap semiconductor RuSb2 is known to exhibit large thermopower, promising for thermoelectric application. However, its low electrical conductivity and high thermal conductivity lead to low figure of merit. To alter these properties, we have grown Mn-doped RuSb2 single crystals, which form an orthorhombic structure. Compared to the parent compound, 8% Mn doping results in better electrical conduction and lower thermal conductivity, while thermopower is reduced. We discuss the Mn doping effect based on both experimental results and theoretical calculations.
