Synthesis and Magnetic Characterization of Cerium Orthoferrite CeFe1-xCrxO3

ORAL

Abstract

The rare-earth orthoferrites RFeO3(R being a rare earth metal) have been extensively investigated for their magnetic properties, in particular the spin reorientation (SR) transition whereby the net magnetic moment due to the spin configuration rotates in response to changing temperature.
We investigate the magnetic characteristics of CeFe1-xCrxO3 with various amounts of Cr3+ substitution. Samples were synthesized via solid-state reaction and studies by vibrating sample magnetometry.

*Funding was provided by OTRES through the MARC Scholars program under the GM-08807 grant. The magnetization measurements was made possible by equipment on extended loan by Quantum Design.
