High-Pressure Structural Studies of AuX$_{2}$ (X = Al, Ga, In)

POSTER

Abstract

High-pressure x-ray diffraction experiments were performed on the group of intermetallic compounds, AuX2 (X = Al, Ga, and In), which at ambient conditions crystallize in the CaF2 [Space group Fm3m] structure. The previously reported retention of the CaF2 phase until 24 GPa in AuIn2 was not observed in these experiments, and instead was observed to undergo a pressure-induced phase transition at 13 GPa. Both AuAl2 and AuGa2 undergo pressure-induced phase transitions at 15 GPa and 9 GPa, respectively. The structural details and the phase transition sequence in these compounds will be presented.
