Examination of the Motion of a System of Granular Material Subjected to Vertical Vibration

POSTER

Abstract

Experiments are conducted using various granular materials subject to a vertical vibration. Qualitative data for the angle of repose is collected as a function of the initial height of the material in the container. Data is used to determine empirical relationships between the maximum angle of repose and container size. This is done for various materials of differing grain size. Also, qualitative observations are made of the surface shape and precession of the angle of repose.
