Transverse Single Spin Asymmetry Extraction Using Omnifold

ORAL

Abstract

We have developed a system for the determination of a transverse single spin asymmetry (TSSA) using both binned unfolding (using RooUnfold) and unbinned unfolding (using Omnifold), including the possibility of background subtraction, unequal spin-up and spin-down polarizations and/or luminosities, the presence of a background asymmetry, and an arbitrary efficiency function. The platform is based on the RooUnfold and Omnifold classes developed by Milton et al. (https://arxiv.org/pdf/2503.09720). The platform has been extensively tested in simulation, and we will present results concerning the convergence and systematic uncertainties associated with this technique. In our example, we have only unfolded one variable, the azimuthal angle, but the technique can be extended to unfold additional kinematic variables, as well as to more complex physics quantities than a simple TSSA.
