Estimating Cross Sections of 57, 58Co Produced with Ion Beams

POSTER

Abstract

Understanding how much of a certain isotope can be produced and find the most efficient method of isotope production has many applications in nuclear science. This work focuses on calculating theoretical yields for natFe(p, x)57,58Co, natFe(d, x)57,58Co, 55Mn(α, x)57,58Co and natTi( 11B, x)57, 58Co using cross section models, such as TALYS and PACE4. In addition, the accuracy of these models is compared to experimental data. We conducted three different experiments that use light-ion beams of protons and deuterons on natFe and alphas on Mn to produce 57, 58Co. The experimental results for the light-ion reactions will be compared to theoretical calculations and will be used to determine production mechanism efficiency.
