Results from an Informal Census of Nuclear Physics Faculty in the United States

ORAL

Abstract

The DNP Education Committee has been charged with maintaining a database of nuclear physics faculty in the United States. This was inspired by the earlier census work of Michael Thoennessen at Michigan State University, that was the basis of data incorporated in the 2023 Long-Range Plan for Nuclear Science. Here we discuss the methodology and results of a similar informal census conducted in 2024 that relied on publicly-available online information. We present summaries of demographic information related to field of study, regions, and other criteria. We also discuss sustainability plans and applications for this census.
