17F(p, ɑ) Measurements with TriSol

Abstract



Since its creation in the 1990’s, the University of Notre Dame has been at the forefront of Radioactive Isotope Beam (or RIBs) research as a result of the TwinSol system. This system has undergone an upgrade through the addition of a 15 degree bending magnet, a set of vertical and horizontal slits, and a third solenoid and thus has become the TriSol system. The capabilities of TriSol include much improved beam focusing and a better beam purification. This allows for the acquisition of more precise experimental data. As part of a campaign of new measurements being done with this system, the 17F(p,ɑ) reaction has been studied to constrain the time-reverse 14O(α,p) reaction, which is a trigger reaction to the αp process in X-ray bursts. Preliminary data will be shown.
