A collaborative quantum testbed with low-level access (QSCOUT)

Abstract
At Sandia National Laboratories, we have a quantum testbed program based on trapped ions, known as the Quantum Scientific Computing Open User Testbed (QSCOUT). Unlike most commercial testbeds, QSCOUT gives external users unique access to the deeper pulse control levels of the machine. QSCOUT has worked with users from across the globe to perform benchmarking tests and comparisons including quantum volume and random-analog verification tests, system characterization through coherent and incoherent noise insertions and pulse changes, chemical quantum dynamic simulations, variational quantum algorithm optimization tests, and more. This poster will showcase some of this previous work and present the novel features that were developed because of the collaborative efforts with users and their projects. We will also offer a glimpse into the testbed's future direction and developments.
