Harnessing modulational instability for the generation of vector solitons

ORAL

Abstract

We investigate the formation of solitons in elongated Bose-Einstein condensates. Counterflow-induced modulational instability is introduced as an effective tool to generate vector solitons in a two-component BEC that have no analog in single-component systems. The current status of the experiment will be discussed.
