Comparison of the bremsstrahlung yields from 53 keV electrons on solid-film gold targets produced by PENELOPE and experiment

We compare the predictions for the absolute bremsstrahlung yields from 53 keV electrons on gold targets of the Monte Carlo program, PENELOPE, to experimental results. The program required several modifications in order to compare the data obtained at a backward angle of 90 degrees. A comparison of the results indicates whether or not absolute yields from solid films are best described by ordinary bremsstrahlung alone, or whether they require the consideration of polarizational bremsstrahlung contributions.
